Adams County Head Start Building
Brighton, CO
6,000 SF
Completed August 2008

BURKETTDESIGN provided full architectural, engineering, and interior design services for the new 6,000 square foot Brighton Head Start Center in the Platte Valley Medical Center Redevelopment. This former hospital was converted into a multi-tenant non-profit educational center serving this fast growing suburb of Denver.

Located in a former hospital Emergency Room, the Center was designed to maximize the use of exterior daylighting into the classroom spaces, with the private offices and support spaces on the interior where natural light was not available. The Center features three new classrooms, each color-coded in their finishes to assist in way finding for the children and parents utilizing the facility. Support spaces were also provided, including a nurses office, community office, teacher resource areas, food service preparation area, and a suite for the ‘home visitors’ who monitor progress of children and families in the Head Start Program. The center was also designed with both passive and active security considerations, where visual control of the main circulation and classrooms is provided from a central receptionist station. The facility has direct outdoor access to an adjacent community park and playground area for student activities.
